The value of waste

Many plastic fibres may be released in the wastewater when we wash synthetic clothes. These micro-sized fibres are difficult to remove in conventional wastewater treatment plants, and now these fibres are among the most common type of microplastics found in lakes and streams.

Prof. Marcel Jansen was one of several scientists from University College Cork to be interviewed on the issue of waste in today’s Echo Live. The researchers are all looking at the effects our waste have on our environment, but also how waste can be a valuable resource.
