New Nature: Microplastics Polluting the Freshwater Environment
UCC PhD student Alicia Mateos Cardenas has published an article in New Nature explaining the subject of her studies. New Nature is a natural history magazine written, edited and produced entirely by young people.
Alicia’s article explains that while a lot has been published on microplastic pollution in oceans, not a lot is known about the effects of microplastics in our rivers and other freshwater environments. Her studies focus on the toxicological effects of microplastics on freshwater species.
The article, entitled “Beyond the Ocean: How Microplastics are Polluting the Freshwater Environment” can be found in issue 8 of New Nature magazine at page 14.
