Project on microplastics wins Google Science Fair

Irish student Fionn Ferreira from West Cork has won the Grand Prize at the Google Science Fair. His project, entitled “An investigation into the removal of microplastics from water using ferrofluids” explores a new method for the extraction of microplastics (plastic particles less than 5mm in diameter) from water.

Thousands of students (13 to 18 years old) participated in the science fair, and a total of 24 finalists were chosen to attend at Google headquarters to reveal the winners.
